Xariseto.gr Bazaar, December 28-29-30, 2010 - report

On December 28-29-30, 2010, we joined the calling from our friends from the web page xariseto.gr. They had a bazaar in Hortiatis, Thessaloniki (Greece). The place was far from our city but it was near for some people that live there.
Many people were bringing items they didn't need, but can be used by someone else that need them. You can see on the last picture what it was all about.
We were there to inform people about FOSS and openSUSE. We had a lot of people asking questions about it. Mostly they didn't know that there's something different than windows. We hope we made a difference even to 1 person.

Report: 1st OpenFest Open Christmas at Florina, December 24th 2010

Yesterday a small team of the Greek openSUSE community decided to go on a Christmas roadtrip. We traveled about 2 and a half hours to go to the beautiful border town of Florina. We were invited by teachers of The Educational Computer Association of Florina to help them promote FOSS. In the central square of the city they hard wooden houses with different themes (you can see the pictures).
openSUSE Greek team with KLUG and a very active elementary teacher, Mr Ioannis Kaskamanidis, were informing people who was interested in what we do. Mr Kaskamanidis, brought his students with their XO laptops. Kids were showing their laptops with pride and giving away info packs (PromoDVDs, stickers, brochures). We also met with a local doctor, Dr Evangelos Tsoukas. He translated and supports the Electronic Medical Records program called openEMR.
openSUSE team was pretty happy about promoting our distro to citizens of Florina. We didn't mind that we drove 200km to reach the city or the soft rain that made us to put all our equipment inside the wooden house. What is left from this event was:

1ο OpenFest Open Christmas at Florina

Something really interesting it is about to happen tomorrow in the border City of Florina. The teachers of The Educational Computer Association of Florina are organizing an event mixing Christmas with FOSS. So in the central square of the city they will have those wooden houses and in one of them there will be people that will promote FOSS to  the public, informing and demonstrating it. Of course the Greek openSUSE team will be there promoting our favorite project. We believe that movements like that should be supported by everyone in the Greek FOSS Community.

1ο OpenFest Open Christmas στην Φλώρινα

Κάτι πολύ ενδιαφέρον όσων αφορά το ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ έχει οργανωθεί για ανήμερα των Χριστουγέννων από τον Σύλλογο Εκπαιδευτικών Πληροφορικης Π.Ε. Φλώρινας. Έτσι λοιπόν Στην κεντρική πλατεία της Φλώρινας Στις 24 του μήνα, σε ένα από τα ξύλινα σπιτάκια που έχουν στηθεί εκεί με αφορμή τις γιορτές, θα μαζευτούμε φίλοι του ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ και θα προσπαθήσουμε να δείξουμε στον κόσμο τα προτερήματα του ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ.

 Όσοι λοιπόν ενδιαφέρεστε να μάθετε παραπάνω για το ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ και να γνωρίσετε την κοινότητα περάστε μια βόλτα. Πιστεύω ότι προσπάθειες σαν και αυτή σε ακριτικές πόλεις όπως η Φλώρινα έχουν τεράστια σημασία και σπουδαιότητα και πρέπει να στηρίζονται από όλους.

 Ξέρω για σίγουρα οτι στην Εκδήλωση θα συμμετέχει ο KLUG και φυσικά η Ελληνική κοινότητα του openSUSE όπου όπως όλα δείχνουν θα ανεβάσουμε μια μικρή ομάδα, οποιοσδήποτε άλλος από κάποια κοινότητα ενδιαφέρετε να συμμετάσχει η να στείλει υλικό για την εκδήλωση μπορεί να επικοινωνήσει με τους διοργανωτές μέσω του μέηλ kiolalis@gmail.com.

Η Επόμενη Συνάντηση της Ελληνικής κοινότητας openSUSE θα
πραγματοποιηθεί την Δευτέρα 20/12 Στις 22:00 όπως συμφωνήθηκε στην
τελευταία μας συνάντηση. θα βρεθούμε Δευτέρα 20 Δεκεμβρίου 2010 στις 22.00, στο καθιερωμένο meeting της κοινότητας μας στο κανάλι #opensuse-el στον IRC server freenode.
Οδηγίες για το πως να συνδεθείτε στο irc μπορείτε να βρείτε εδώ [1].

Μην ξεχάσετε να ρίξετε μια ματιά στο πρωτόκολλο συνάντησης αλλά στην ατζέντα [2] του meeting καθώς και να προσθέσετε τυχόν θέματα προς συζήτηση, πριν την έναρξη του meeting.

o Tell us about the event, What did you do? We talked a little bit about openSUSE Project (presentation), then we showed what the Greek community did (presentation). After the brake, we had a brief intro to OBS (presentation) and we finished with the installation of the KDE (presentation).

The Association of Greek Users and Friends of FS/OSS organized a Christmas Party for all Linux enthousiasts and all distros. openSUSE, Ubuntu and Fedora were present with a small booth. We were gathered together before everyone leaves for Christmas vacations. Some of us were informing people about FS/OSS and distros. Thank you GreekLUG for the Xmas party.
