openSUSE Summer Camp Greece 2011
Summer in Greece! Is the weather too hot for you to code or contribute to your favorite FOSS project? Do you need some motivation and a refreshing swim? Come to our Summer Camp!
The Greek openSUSE community is organizing its first openSUSE Summer Camp, in central Greece at Grand Platon Hotel at Olympiaki akti. This is is the beach of the city of Katerini. The doors will be open from the 15th to the 17th of July 2011, at the Heart of Summer!
Sounds awesome, I’ll book my tickets.
So, you’ll be there. What can you expect?Our goal is to bring FOSS communities closer and encourage people to contribute to their favorite projects.
A lot of people, with little to a lot of experience can benefit from the workshops included in our program, during which we will work on things like translation, wiki usage, coding, packaging and much more, showing how to work inside a community and how to collaborate with others!
Hmmm. But I could go swimming…
There will be relaxing and swimming of course! But hey, we have a common passion, don’t we?We love what we do, we are having fun contributing to FOSS and we hate doing it alone in our rooms during Summer time. Besides coding, translating and all other ‘working stuff’ there will also be plenty of sun and beach, a large swimming pool and plenty of beers – all paid by you since we only sponsor the sun, the fun and all the other free stuff…
We are looking forward to seeing you at the openSUSE Summer Camp Greece!

openSUSE Medical (The New Leadership)
It's very important for me , that from now on i am a FOSS project leader (openSUSE Medical)..to know more about take a look at the news :
http://news.opensuse.org/2011/06/09/new-leadership-inside-the-medical-project/
First of all i would like to thank Sascha Manns (openSUSE Medical project Founder) , Kostas Koudaras (openSUSE Greek Community Leader), Efstathios Eiosifidis ( openSUSE Ambassador , and openSUSE Medical Contributor) for their help and advice.
But maybe someone will ask me why is so important for you to lead a project?
It is very important to lead an FOSS project , because you feel more that you contribute (in the community) and also inform people around this project (of course and about Gnu/Linux)...Furthnermore , this project is a it's a challenge , because i'm not a doctor or a pharmacist , i' m just a gratuated student from Department of Applied Informatics...I would like to mention that , i will try to give my best..but..your opinion,suggestion and feedback are very very usefull for me and for the project in general...
That's for now...
Thanks a lot!
Have a lot of fun , enjoy openSUSE , and try openSUSE Medical!

openSUSE Medical, a great project changes leadership
Yesterday an announcement about changes on openSUSE Medical was made. Sascha Manns hand over the leadership of openSUSE Medical to Α.Ι. Rousinopoylos(a.k.a Zoympis or Thanasis).
Thanasis was one of the first people that participated the Greek openSUSE community and gave valuable help to it. He became a member of the Medical Team almost immediately and he is a hard working man. I believe that soon Sascha's trust on him will prove him right.
Already Thanasis is working on openSUSE Medical 11.4 and he is making a research for new programs that need to be added on it, when at the same time is talking to people for joining the Medical Team to help.
I am confident that in the future great thing will come out of this project and continue Sascha Manns great work.
If you are on any way involved with medicine or you are a developer and would like to help this valuable project feel free to join.

Report from EL/LAK Conference (Thessaloniki)
Report from EL/LAK Conference (Thessaloniki,Greece,22/05/2011)
As an openSUSE Ambassador, I 'm very happy to
report for another time what took place in the conference.
So the conference lasted 1 day
The Day : Booth and Presentation
We set up the booth as an openSUSE Community. All the related stuff
(about Medical and openSUSE) was available around the booth.
Furthermore me and Stathis Iosifidis informed people about the
openSUSE Project and openSUSE Medical Project as well as the
applications which are available via the openSUSE Medical Distro.
Efstathios Agrapidis also made an introductory presentation about OBS.
The presentation rolled out smoothly. Although there wasn't enough
time to answer questions, the audience showed their interest by coming
later to the booth asking for more details; not only about the
platform and the infrastracture itself, but also about packaging
generally.
I would like to note that we informed the people about:
* openEMR
* GNUMed
* FreeMedForms
* FreeDiams
* TEMPO
* Plasmoid Glucose
Booth helpers : Efstathios Agrapidis, Vasilis
openSUSE Ambassadors : Rousinopoulos Athanasios-Ilias , Efstathios Iosifidis
Presentations : Efstathios Agrapidis ("Introduction to OBS")
* Event Details : 22 Μαΐου 2011
Q : How many DVDs taken and distributed?
A: About 75 DVDs. We also used the file Greek help flyer
Q:Would you go again?
A:Yes of course!
You can take a look at the photos of the conference and the booth as well :
